To many of us a $50.00 medical bill at the vet is nothing, but for an elderly person on a fixed income, a single mother, a student, and for many others, it's an impossibility.

There are many instances of elderly people doing without their own medicine or even food in order to care for their animals' medical needs.

So what do you do if you love your animal but can't afford to pay the bill?  Shakespeare Animal Fund, a non-profit charity was founded after the loss of a beloved Cocker Spaniel "Shakespeare". He died after a very costly illness, and in his memory this fund was founded to help others who might face financial problems while trying to save their pet.

Shakespeare Animal Fund, a non-profit charity was founded after the loss of a beloved Cocker Spaniel "Shakespeare". He died after a very costly illness, and in his memory this fund was founded to help others who might face financial problems while trying to save their pet. Let Shakespeare help you!

Also, each month SAF distributes 500 lbs of dog food and 400 lbs of cat food. We help anywhere from 150 to 200 people each month including deliveries. Sometimes these pets haven't had anything to eat in days when we rush them emergency food.

You can be a hero to people in need. Support the efforts of the Shakespeare Animal Fund with your donations of funding and of time.

PetSmart Supports Shakespeare Animal Fund!

A huge thank you to PetSmart for their $8,000 donation to SAF! Their generous contribution insures that many, many local animals will be saved. Without support like this, we couldn't keep helping deserving pets get the health care they need.

Thank you PetSmart!

Help Us Keep Helping!

Due to the downturn in the economy, we have had to limit our funding to the degree we had had to turn people away when we have gone over our monthly budget. We need your contributions to help us keep on helping.

You can contribute on this site, by sending a check to Shakespeare Animal Fund, P.O. Box 8201, Reno, NV 89507, or contact Jennifer Webb: theshakefund@aol.com. Thank you!

Reno 7th grader asks for donations to Shakespeare Animal Fund instead of presents for 13th birthday

Sarah OsborneOn Friday, January 21, 2011, Sarah Osborne celebrated her 13th birthday with her 7th grade classmates from Our Lady of the Snows Catholic School and her friends from Big Air Riding Academy. In lieu of birthday gifts, Sarah's friends donated money to the Shakespeare Animal Fund. The guests donated over $200.00 to the organization.

Sarah Osborne is an avid equestrian and donates numerous volunteer hours to the Nevada Humane Society and St. Vincent's through the National Charity League. She worked on the ornaments for the Nevada State Christmas Tree in Washington, DC, for five years which helped raise money for the wild mustangs in Northern Nevada. She has assisted the horses at Have A Heart Save A Horse by providing treats and grooming sessions. Currently, Sarah is fostering a nine month old Chihuahua who was in need of socialization and potty training.

Sarah hopes to host more fundraisers for the Shakespeare Animal Fund and hopes that more children will consider foregoing birthday gifts in order to help an organization in need.

An Example of How SAF Helps...

Dear Shakespeare Animal Fund,

My name is Laura Casson, my husband is Jim Casson. Recently we contacted your organization concerning our Cat, he was 23 years old and not doing well. We were terrified it was time to put him down. You Organization was gracious enough to help us with the vet bill, we took him over to Dr. Pierce in Reno. The Doctor told us it was time to put him down. It broke our heart after all those years but he was put to sleep.

My husband is 75 years old and I have Multiple Sclerosis, we live on Social Security for our only income. We were so worried about what to do for our Kitty. As hard as it was to put him down we would like to thank you for your help financially at that time. Your organization was a God send to us and we truly appreciate your help. If there was one wish we had, of course, is our kitty would still be with us. Thanks you again from the bottom of heart!

Jim and Laura Casson
